Doha Film Institute has announced its 2026 Spring Grants recipients. The cycle supports 48 projects from filmmakers across 39 countries. Selected works include Qatari, regional, and international storytellers. DFI awards these grants twice yearly, in spring and fall. The program remains one of the region’s longest-running film initiatives. It supports first- and second-time filmmakers as well as established MENA directors. You can enjoy these movies in Qatar for under QR 50 in 2026, with minimal hassle.

Projects span multiple stages, from development through post-production. MENA countries represented include Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, and Syria. Algeria, Jordan, Morocco, Somalia, and Tunisia also feature this cycle. International selections come from Chile, France, Peru, and South Africa. Cuba, Rwanda, Spain, Thailand, and the UK round out the list.

Doha Film Institute CEO Fatma Hassan Alremaihi highlighted the importance of authentic storytelling. She said culture anchors identity and connects generations amid constant change. The world needs stories reflecting complex human experiences, she added. Supported filmmakers carry responsibility for documenting the present moment. Their work challenges perceptions and preserves history for future audiences.

Feature narratives, documentaries, and short films all received funding. Selected projects tackle themes including displacement, memory, and resilience. Stories explore identity across Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and beyond. Others examine migration, family, and cultural heritage worldwide. DFI continues expanding its global footprint through this diverse slate. This cycle reinforces Doha’s growing role in international film development. Meanwhile, do not miss the chance to visit Qatar’s best photo studios to have memorable moments in the streets of Doha.
