Lusail City has secured two entries in the Guinness World Records. Qatari Diar announced the achievement for the city’s cooling infrastructure. The district cooling network now holds the record for the largest network. It spans a total length of 123.5 kilometers across Lusail City. The system links cooling plants and energy stations to buildings. Pipeline diameters range from 100 millimeters to 1,600 millimeters citywide.
Smart leak-detection systems support the network’s advanced operations. Distributed isolation valves and service tunnels further enhance operational flexibility. These features simplify maintenance while ensuring uninterrupted service delivery, including services on the Lusail Tram. The design reflects Qatar’s commitment to sustainable urban infrastructure planning.
Lusail City also earned a second record for chilled water storage. The tank sits at the Northern District Cooling Plant facility. It stands 46.041 meters high and has a diameter of 32 meters. The tank stores 12,000 refrigeration tons of chilled water capacity. This storage plays a key role in improving system efficiency. It stores chilled water during low-demand periods and supplies it during peak hours.
This process helps improve energy efficiency by up to fourteen percent. The improvement reduces electricity consumption across Lusail’s cooling network. It also supports broader environmental sustainability goals for the city. Qatari Diar said the achievements mark a milestone for Qatar. Lusail continues to serve as a model for smart city design.
